About Us

The Conservation Networking social platform started with the dream to become the most complete global digital ‘job pool’ for conservationists. It was founded in May 2020 by Goodluck Massawe to connect individuals, specifically researchers and students in conservation, with potential job opportunities. The social platform is designed to share and promote opportunities related to sustainability, conservation science and other ways to protect nature. The aim is to facilitate the access of early career young nature lovers to conservation related jobs. The platform also shares educational or skills development opportunities (e.g. scholarships, internships, courses) to encourage the further development of the future conservationist potential and increase the probability of acquiring employment within the conservation field.

Why Conservation
Networking?

Many of the existing opportunities in conservation in Africa are hard to find, scattered, and at times not widely communicated or even posted in public accessible networks. At the same time, many people looking for conservation opportunities are unaware of which skills are more demanded in the conservation field or where to obtain them, which reduces their chances to get a job in this already competitive market.
Withing Africa there are big numbers of young very talented and passionate people that if given the opportunity and the skills can become key players to ensure long term conservation and encourage more sustainable habits in the society. However, the lack of awareness or access to conservation job opportunities for this young people or even non conservation mid-career professionals that share a passion for nature, is undermining their motivation to pursue their dreams, and therefore untapping their potential for ensuring conservation
About the founder - Goodluck Massawe

I am an early career conservationist that grew up in rural Tanzania, where I had the chance to explore, observe and learn about wildlife and conservation challenges since a very early age. These encounters with wildlife were the first spark for a growing passion for nature conservation that raised my interest to learn and become a conservation professional.

Since then, I have worked on diverse conservation projects for protection of fragile ecosystems and participated several wildlife surveys and research using different techniques like aerial survey, camera traps, call back techniques for carnivores, questionnaire surveys and ringing of migratory birds’ species. My work has taken me to various ecosystems found in Tanzania such as Katavi-Rukwa Ecosystem and Nyerere-Selous ecosystem.

My academic carrier growth started from the College of African Wildlife Management where I pursued Technician certificate and Diploma in Wildlife Management. After that, I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).  And currently I am an Msc student in Biodiversity informatics at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). My research interest lies on assessing Biodiversity changes and make predictions about ecosystems. In order to assess this prediction, we need to be able to integrate different factors of past and present environmental and biodiversity observations and embed them in models with predictive power to address socially and ecological urgent questions.

Throughout my interactions with various people pursuing wildlife conservation courses, I’ve observed a persistent difficulty in finding conservation-related jobs. Many talented and qualified people I’ve interacted with are struggling in finding conservation job opportunities, often landing on temporary or unpaid general positions. Due to these problems and the lack of future career growth perspectives, some of them leave conservation aspirations entirely, seeking for more stable employment in other fields like the business industry. I believe losing this talented people due to the lack of access to employment opportunities information is a big lose for nature conservation and the institutions working for it. Therefore, identifying this challenge, has fueled my passion to create a platform where conservation jobs are widely accessible.

It is my dream to see Conservation Networking Platform as the ‘go-to’ platform for any NGO, Government, Corporation, University, educational or training institution, to advertise jobs, internships and training opportunities. Nothing would make me happier than see how these institutions get the most talented and passionate early career staff after posting their vacancies on this wide spread platform (along with their own channels). In just the past three years, the platform has gained good number active followers (from around the world, but the majority form within Africa) who are actively looking for internships, jobs and other assignments related to nature conservation.
