Role Overview
Our fieldwork program aims to contribute to the understanding of baboon behavior, ecology, and their interactions with local communities. As a Volunteer Research Assistant, you will work alongside experienced researchers and be an integral part of our team, assisting with various aspects of data collection, fieldwork, and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Behavioral Observation
- Spend time in the field observing and recording baboon behavior, social interactions, and movements.
- Data Collection and Management
- Assist with gathering and organizing field data, including observational notes, photographs, and videos.
- Help maintain detailed records for later analysis.
- Community Outreach and Education
- Support community engagement activities to raise awareness about baboon conservation.
- Help lead educational sessions in nearby schools or communities to promote coexistence between humans and wildlife.
- Logistical Assistance
- Assist with maintaining research equipment and setting up observation areas.
- Work with the team to ensure all necessary field supplies are available.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Interest in wildlife conservation and a love of the outdoors.
- Ability to work well as part of a team in remote and sometimes challenging conditions.
- Strong communication skills and a desire to engage with local communities.
- No previous experience is required, but a background in biology, conservation, or a related field is beneficial.
- Willingness to commit to at least 8 weeks of fieldwork.

Accommodation and Logistics

Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own travel to South Africa, but we will provide guidance and support to help you prepare for your stay.
